Statement:

Initially recognizable motifs borrowed from nostalgic, pop-culture characters of yesteryear are rendered abstract through Lucas Geor’s crucial brushstrokes and seemingly arbitrary use of color.
Recounting the poised lines of Fauvists such as George Rouault, the abstracted perspectives of Master Cubists like Picasso, and influenced by disparate artistic mediums - a century of the avant-garde, vintage sign writing, advertising, animation - Lucas’ painting synthesizes fine details and his tongue-in-cheek humour through an assured, lyrical spontaneity. The artist’s work shirks convention and creates a subtle commentary about the environment around him, while the identifiable figures establish a dialogue that requires we join in on his vivid, and vital, conversation.
